Core thesis

The varṇamālā may be a phonetic map with a semantic depth axis.

The graph begins with two known dimensions: release and voicing on X, and anatomical source on Y. The third dimension is the discovery being tested: Sanskrit roots appear to cluster from outward action or visible quality, away from self, toward carried, held, bent-inward, relational, cognitive, and self-referential meanings. The tile color is calculated from that coordinate: green is stronger near the outward pole, while red strengthens as the sound moves across and down toward the inward pole.

Nāśa: √naś means to perish, be lost, or cease to exist. In this hypothesis, its inwardness is extreme withdrawal from the visible field: as an analogy, like a particle or wave leaving the observable frame of space and time.

Namas: √nam means bending or bowing; it is an action, but the movement turns inward, toward submission, relation, and self-positioning.

Abstract

This page presents a working hypothesis about the Sanskrit varṇamālā as a three-dimensional coordinate system. The first two dimensions are standard phonetics: how a sound is released, and where in the mouth or vocal tract it is produced. The proposed third dimension asks whether root meanings cluster along a visible movement from outward action or quality, experienced as farther from self, toward carrying, holding, bending inward, binding, relation, speech, thought, memory, measure, and self-reference.

Hypothesis

The hypothesis is not that a single letter mechanically creates a fixed meaning. The stronger hypothesis is testable and more modest: when Sanskrit roots are placed on the traditional phonetic grid, and then compared with Indo-European evidence where possible, semantic families may appear in patterned regions of the grid. Tests and Controls

Each letter card should be judged by roots, morphology, and sound laws, not by visual similarity alone. Strong cells such as √gam, √jan, √dā, √dhā, √nah, √sad, √bhṛ, √man, and √vah can be compared against Indo-European material. Research Boundary

Strong pattern

Column-four roots such as √dhā and √bhṛ cluster around holding, placing, nourishing, bearing, and sustained force. Their cognates survive across Indo-European branches even when the surface sounds change.

Needed correction

Column one is not simply outward. √pā, "to drink," is inward but still a direct boundary-transfer act. This changes the model from a flat line into a vector field.

Root first

Nāśa, namas, and krodha are examples for reading the vector without reducing Sanskrit to letter magic. How to read it

Why color helps

The card color is a coordinate calculation, not decoration. Green is strongest where Z is low, near outward action or quality moving away from self. Family-colored dots and lines still help with evidence clusters, but the tile background shows the main hypothesis.

What the negative axes mean
